Hello everybody,
I have an AS21 case that had a small hole at the sump, when I ground the corrosion in turned into a bigger hole, I ground off all of the corrosion and used JB weld, will it hold, or should I through away the case?

Depends on your budget, what size engine you're building and where you're going.

If you're building a "floor sweeper" and staying local.. .sure drive it till it blows.

If you're building a performance engine and gonna drive it long distances... i'd get a new case.

Years ago I tightened the oil sender too much and cracked the case. I used JB Weld and it held for years until the case cracked at #3 behind the flywheel.

There are some epoxy products that are for machining and using on engine blocks. JB weld is a bit runny and I would want something that had wire mesh in it. Needs to withstand 300 degrees.

i too have a virgin as21 case. the water destroid the poor thing.

i have another case that has a crater of corrosion in the sump area. not all the way through, but close enough to make you worry. so i will be watching as well. i guess you just need something that wont start to disolve or degrade.

i would try to save it if you can. got a pic 4 us?

We use a product called Belzona on these types of repairs at work. (Block repair on Caterpillar Diesel engines). Works fantastic. Your JB weld repair will work.... I rep'd that product for 8 years and saw all kinds of "everlasting repairs" and heard tons of testimonials.
