|
|
| I am new to older type 2's and am looking at buying a 1960 panel and was wondering how to identify if it has the "small nut" tranny or not. What tell tale signs/numbers do I look for? Thanks for your help. |

Being a Samba trainee, I need dufus specifics, like where to find the axle nut. you are most likely laughing now, but you gotta start somewhere. |

learning is important and better than coming in acting like you are all knowing and falling on your face. We were all there.
underneath the rear hub cap. Its on the end of the axel. It holds the drum on. _________________ Oil Capital Air Cooled

That's assuming there are rear hubs caps.
generally speaking, big nut means 1.26 reduction gearing, little nut means 1.39, so big nuts are taller gearing. and big nuts have wider (better) brakes. there are exceptions to this rule, but the vast majority of the time it's so. though in 63 the one ton buses had little nuts and 1.26 gearing in the RGBoxs, and the wider (64-67) brakes. real 'mountain gears' are very very very rare. |
