Hey Erb - I keep my Westy in the garage so no snow on it. If I had a split there's no way it would be out in the snow either

I generally use a tool called a snowbrush to clear snow off my daily vehicles. You can get them at Canadian Tire or Walmart or Costco. A nice telescoping one is good to reach the top. An added benefit is that they don't make any noise which is pretty amazing.

They are also good for ice on the windshield and glass. You might have to rig up your tool with a heat element or a flame thrower attachment to deal with ice or heavy sticky snow.

Just a couple of ideas.
