I have a feeling this is a dumb question, but I thought I’d check. My clutch pedal snapped, so seems like a good time to rebuild the assembly and add a big boy shaft and xcelerator pedal from classic bug parts.
I bought a used assembly and just tore it down, and noticed this nick at the end of the bushing. Is this acceptable or does it warrant a bushing replacement?

I wouldn't replace it, but I'd use a small 1/2 round file and remove the high spot that displacing an area like that would create in the bore. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

It looks like that was caused by someone in the past driving that bushing in with a chisel. I also do not think that will matter once smoothed out with a file. |

Thanks for the replies… I was hoping there would be some confidence is smoothing it out and running with it. The damage didn’t seem bad enough, and the part isn’t as delicate as say an engine bearing… but, figured it was worth checking. |

Following up in case anyone is following along. Finished the rebuild a week ago, have the new assembly installed, and 150 miles clocked… all is well. Turns out my pedal wasn’t the only disastrous part… the cable was frayed, too. Averted disaster for sure.
The pedal shaft extender and ‘x-celerator’ kit from classic bug parts have made such a huge difference, I wish I would have done this sooner.

The big foot extension from classic big parts is the one I installed, and while it doesn’t solve for the space between the brake and the accelerator, the spacing it adds for the clutch has made a massive improvement. I’m a 10.5 shoe, but only felt really comfortable wearing narrow width shoes. With this extension, I feel good in any sneaker and probably boots, too.
There’s a lot of topics on the assembly rebuilds… in my experience, the impact outweighs the effort. However, if I had more time I would have opted for sending it out to pedalwerks with the request of using the classic bug parts shaft, as I see their using that in some rebuilds now. |

The clutch pedal on both my 1970 and 1971 cracked like that, I got them welded up. Good to know! I was planning to send the broken one out for welding. _________________ 1972 Super Beetle |

When I took mine apart to put that kit in, I took some 1/8" metal and boxed it to prevent the cracking! |
