Can anyone help me identify what this steering wheel might have been used on?
It was advertised as a split steering wheel.

Thank you for your help. Now I'm thinking that it is a Schwimmwagen steering wheel. It looks really close to the first image you posted.

Yes, that first picture, I posted was my last discovery - found the other 3 first and then, that first one - now, I also know something about very early steering wheel ID - z

Does not look like a KdF/Kübelwagen/Schwimmwagen steering wheel.

This style was very common back in prewar and immediate post war Germany, built by Petri. KdF wheel is 40 cm, first thing to check. Also if it fits a pre 1959 steering shaft. Thirdly, the center part where the horn button fits is not at all this deep in an original KdF wheel (compare to first photo of an unrestored Schwimmer with an original wheel), there is also no notch/intendation in the center part where it fits the steering shaft tube.

There were about 60 000 plus original KdF wheels (this style) made from 1943 to 1947 so one might think it is not that rare. The rubber rim however was not very durable so not many survived and were swapped for newer incorrect Standard Beetle wheels like the restored Schwimmwagen pictured above (please note the hard plastic rim with no grooves).

I have seen original KdF wheels sell for 800-2500 Euros, similar period Opel, tractor etc wheels are not desirable and sell for very little money.

Do you have a picture of the correct steering wheel? thanks - z

Again, a samba gallery picture - with a KDF steering wheel - has the groove - I know, it's not a schwim, but is of that era - Since no one can produce an original picture of a schwimwagen steering wheel, i'm gunna' assume the grooved-one is correct

here's a period photo of a schwimmer with grooves just visible. I've noticed that some wartime vws had flat spoked steering wheels as in the second photo...
