I'm trying to plan a build, and I'm considering keeping the stock Waterboxer (for emissions ease of use) and just replacing my auto trans with a Subaru 4EAT.

Is this a thing? I have not seen any adapters for sale for this.

I feel like the Waterboxer might do really well pushing a 4 speed auto!

Not really sure that can be done.

As far as physical adapters to VW Waterboxer to Subuar 4EAT you could check with Kennedy Engineering, as they provide most of our Vanagon drivetrain conversion adapters.

The issue would be the transmission control module and interfacing it with the Waterboxer system.

The 4EAT transmission swaps are retaining the Subaru 2.5 engine.

Thanks, that's what I figured. Kennedy does not list what I'm looking for, thanks for the response.

the gearing and lock up converter would have that engine struggle more than it does now

Thanks for the correction. I used to be a nice guy, then I ruined it by exposing myself to the public.
