Am helping a friend overseas refurbish a 1958 Ghia with a fixed quarter window. My question is: Is there a rubber seal that goes between the quarter window glass and the vertical pillar. I was told by others that a black silicone sealant is used - can't believe this was originally used by VW. HELP!

They have a product called window setting tape that I have used on other restorations. On my 59 I used some 3M™ Polyurethane Glass Adhesive Sealant.
The vertical trim is aftermarket and the slot for the glass is very tight.
Measure the thickness of the glass then the slot and you will find it will be hard to find a product that would fill the gap between the two. mine was too tight to use window setting tape. Good luck on your quest.
