They offer 2 basic pumps.
One for engines with Alternators.(short rod)
One for engines with generators (long rod)
Problem is I also bought a replacement spacer/rod guide at the same time but it was slightly shorter i(about 1/8") n height than my stock one so I stayed with the stock one.
Now I'm thinking my pump isn't getting enough travel through it's stroke.
Also in my opinion this pump is a piece of sh*t and should probably just get a good re-buildable old school pump and a rebuild kit.
Thanks in advance for replies.

The thickness of the spacer does not affect the stroke of operating rod.
The stroke is determined by the cam surface of the distributor drive pinion.
A thinner-than-stock spacer will cause the maximum extension of the rod above
the spacer to be slightly higher, resulting in a (very) slight pressure increase.
You would need an extremely sensitive pressure gauge to detect it.
You can always throw an extra gasket or two under the pump to make up the difference. _________________ '67 bug: seized by the authorities

Post a photo of the pump. I bought a pump from Summit. Both inlet and outlet tubes came out, which was obviously a potential fire. Wrote summit about it, they did not seem to care. Its the Chinese manufacturer, not the retail distributor. So if you want a quality part, find a rebuildable old pump and either refresh it yourself, or have a pro do it.
For your other problem, I had excess pressure to the point where when I shut off the engine, fuel continued to drip inside the carb. I tried two carbs, same issue. Put on this Summit pump, same issue. Added another gasket under the pump (or was it two?), no more excess pressure issues. This brings the pump up to the upper section of the stroke, so part of the time its not moving any more.
Lets see that dung pump. _________________ 1968 Beetle torn apart again

| I’ll post pictures after I rebuild the Pierburg I have coming and flatten it with the 8 pound hammer. |
