That was at a VW show , the Dual Cab showing off driving through a drainage ditch , The engine was a 105 x 71 with big valve heads and an oval track midget cam . Still only about 150whp .
The owner was young and silly at the time and went through numerous stock 3 rib boxes stripping first gear . |

Just a little history . Jon the owner of the white/yellow dual cab is the brother in-law of one of my oldest friends . I've known the family since the early eighties .
Mid eighties , I owned the blue Baja , John Alder(Local Formula Vee guru) owned the red one , which had one of the first upright type 4's in our area , Now I've a red Baja Bus and he has a Blue Baja bus !! Still good friends .

The bug photo is Moreton Island off our home town of Brisbane , the Bus pic is on Fraser Island , the largest sand Island in the world .
A funny story , if you look up Ngkala rocks Fraser Island , you will get clip after clip of 4WD’s getting stuck in soft sand . Old VW’s if set up right are incredible on sand as Rommel found out ,which surprises the hell out of 4WD owners.
The Blue bus towed the yellow bus through that sand , I wasn’t there at the time but heard the much embellished stories over the years , which was a fair effort anyway considering the blue bus just had a mild 2lt engine coupled to a stock 3 rib trans with an open diff.
Fast forward 15 years and another trip to the Island we helped out a stranger with a 4wd selection issue , he kept looking at the blue bus , finally he asked if John the owner had been on the Island 15 years before , the reason was ,he’d watched him tow the broken bus through the track , his friend was that surprised at the time he dropped his fishing rod in the water where they were fishing !!
it was funny to hear the story from a complete unbiased stranger !! |

Cool stories Dig the racks on the Bajas even though I have personally experienced the different handling characteristics and tip over points between just me in the Baja and 3 guys and a loaded roof rack haha Those are a huge set of RACKS partner _________________ 2180cc MS3PRO sequential fuel and spark 42mm IDF style Throttle boddies
