This will be a post for keeping track of my rustoration of my 1965 Velvet green and White walkthrough build. Hopefully will get added to the Builds sticky.
I do have a website with videos from youtube I will be updating when time allows so check that out also. www.scrappythebus.com

So purchased this bus from springfield Missouri. It has been sitting outside my house tarped for many years waiting for Life to find a way for me to work on it. So 4 kids later, and I decide I was just going to have to make time. I had been collecting parts over the years and am finally giving it a slow whirl!
So far I have finally situated the Title and registration and it is legal in Illinois! Man that was a trip! I have began to cut the cargo floor area out and cleaning it up welding in a new inner rocker and some I-beams also. Working on the front lower b pillar, outer cargo rocker and C-pillar and patch next!
Ad image from the samba!
Pulling it home, had to stop at Bass Pro!
Little rusty
CLR Treatment!
Wolfsburg West order!
Started Cutting some of the Cargo Floor out!
More to come!! _________________ 1965 velvet green walk-thru standard

Nice patina there. You probably need to address the rain gutter stuff, but the rest looks good as is. Not dented up, either. |

So a few more photos, they are old and I have done a bunch more since these Ill try to fill in these posts in order of how I done them.
So this is how the floor looked before starting removal, by the cargo door, the other side was pretty much the same.
and 2 more when I started cutting the floor out. I used the old cut with a cut-off wheel in my grinder and followed the tophats and I-beam sides being careful not to hit the lines for the brakes and shift-rod, ectt.. Used the air chisel tool to peel the floor on top of the ibeams, be careful using the air-chisel on the top hats as it will rip the spots out of the top hats.
The Rear passenger side rocker will need replacing also. I do have that replacement also.

I did end up purchasing all the patchwork for the side of the cargo floor but ended up ordering the whole floor replacement after getting into more.

More of the floor cutout
Then some Measure and Cutout passenger rear most I-Beam. This 65 has 3 I-beams in it.
Man this thing was swollen and crusty!
Cut the new piece from a KlassicFab Replacement, and fitting.
Then Welded in. I welded this end with a stepped notching with 2 plug welds in the overlap in to the original and them butt welded the rest. Made I think for a stronger end!

Little more shown progress from around May of this year. Trying to show in chronological order!
Rear passenger front of the wheel well cut out.
Replacement I made, without the other tweeking I had done to the edges.
Then almost all welded in, still need to finish it.
Hope to have some more videos up on my channel but with kids and football, softball, and basketball and such going on its tough! _________________ 1965 velvet green walk-thru standard

Thanks! I figured if I would step it, the i-beam would be a little stronger instead of a flush cut. I have another 2 replaced like this solid as a rock and I show how to use the rest of the extra I-beam to finish the middle one. more to come. _________________ 1965 velvet green walk-thru standard

Played around again this last weekend with CLR steel wool and ospho, the spots on the roof and the left front came out the way I would have liked. I did do the right front of the bus also and If you Do this make sure you don't leave the ospho on to long it turned in the scratches too black. Ill have to get a photo of the right side but the these 2 turned out well.
right side coming soon! _________________ 1965 velvet green walk-thru standard

Welded a new C pillar bottom on today, trying to accomplish 1 task every other day!
Now I just need to find out how the c pillare bottom attaches to the inner rocker. _________________ 1965 velvet green walk-thru standard

The bottom outer skin flange attaches with spot welds to the bottom rocker lip and the skin ties it in. So does the outer rocker tie it in.
The cargo floor ties in the C-pillar. That gap gets welded.

I know I am jumping around at the moment but getting some things done with work and sports.
Have the Transaxle IRS Arms welded in for IRS and Fitting the support plate I fabricated to help support the U cradle area. I am doing this because the U section was originally cut out and I fused another to fill in the U if that makes sense. Also clearanced for the trailing arms. Hoping to get this IRS Mocked and finished up soon.

Also had been fitting the replacement panels for the rear luggage area getting them situated.

Got it all cutout and getting ready to fit the first piece.
Fitted and Tacked in the first piece.
Fitting the rear most piece still as of now. Still have to get the inner and outer
hinge carrier parts but coming along.
