Reverse conversation from 12v to 6v. Not sure how to correctly mount the 9 pin flasher in 66 bug. I suspect it has something to do with the bracket in the attached image. I made my own bracket which seems to work fine but would like to know the right way.

Also the flasher seems to only work when solidly grounded and when held at certain angles.
Could someone expand on why the angle maters?
Thanks in advance.

The flasher relay basically screws to the bracket with a long sheet metal screw through the center of the relay .

Position accordingly .. angle is not important.. but the ground path through the mount is.. Wink

The flasher would be secured to the tab with a long sheet metal type screw placed through the center of the flasher.
This is the flasher primary ground point (flashers without the separate ground jumper/lead) so it needs to be somewhat secure..

And more often found after previous owners.. after the tab was over tightened.. or repeatedly tightened, as they often vibrated loose losing the ground.. ...some previous owners opted to add a metal clip nut (or some refer to them as spring nuts).

Yeah unless that flasher has a brown wire coming out of it for ground (some did), the ground point is the mounting screw through the center. So that needs to be well-grounded to the body.

The angle of the flasher should have no bearing on whether it works, but if there is something flaky or loose inside who knows? These things are old and to my knowledge no one knows how to fix 'em.
