I just have to post link to a 1968 VW Service Bulletin about women...hysterical!

https://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/lit/68svcbull_ladiesday.php

A few gems:
"In case you haven't noticed ... women are different"
"Women get particularly upset ..."
"Women don't understand technical terms."
"When a car goes into the shop ... we can't pin a rose on it to warn you a woman service customer brought it in"

Rolling Eyes I guarantee you that Riviera Motors in Portland didn't get the memo in the early 80's. I've never been so condescended to in my life...

From another perspective, some women are different from real women.

On defense, for 1968 , that was pretty forward thinking

MIT had the first program in WOMENS Studies , so that engineers would know what they look like.

Ok, I made that up

I would think they'd already know what they looked like since the first woman graduated from MIT in 1873 Wink

Despite all the progress I think discrimination still is alive and well even in polite society. The scenarios with dirt and grease and foul language being upsetting to women is bullshit. I think it would be unprofessional for any customer to put up with that.

im not seeing it...

most women, absolutely do not like dirt. or grease. or bugs. or tools.

that doesnt mean there arent exceptions, but the numbers are nowhere near even. Its just nature.

foul language... yeah, most women my age cus... alot.

you see, society is reverting in a way. in a stupid way. Men and Women are not the same. Its not up for debate. Men used to hold doors open for women. and give up their seat. and make it a priority to support and protect their girl.

and then, women and men really messed it up for us, gold diggers(and the men indulging this nonsense), and feminism(modern day version) set up whar we have now.

they taught the current generations that when a man is polite, or goes out of his way to help a female, that it must be sexism! and that women dont need men. and that men are all numb bags of meat.

as a result, Women have lost their special privileges. oopsie. looks like somebody effed up Laughing

now remember, i used the word "most", quite a few times. so dont get it mixed up in your head, that there arent exceptions. im talking about the majority, and or popularity.

weve reached equality between sexes already! unfortunately, the bad apples are spoling the punch.

Only a couple of my male friends know anything about their cars anymore.

Between my friend Shawn (who is currently working for Audi's Dakar team) the rest of them don't even get their car washed regularly or change winter/summer tires.

So all of the customers are in need of this treatment, which is fair to say since school's have removed shop classes across the country. The last one the DoD school had was in Okinawa and closed in 2012.

Even the local shop I get to work on our new VW's can't get employees, he had to swap tires/rims at the beginning of winter as the owner of the shop. He loves to talk to me-practice his English and I understand the "car stuff".

So really this should be applied to all customers.

Now you’ve added “ coloured girls” to the Frey, too.

Chicken soup, I love you, man…. But get it out of your head that sexism is gone and that equality is here, now. You guys have done much better than us, but there is still a long way to go.

I'm thinking 1968 is quite late to be realising that a growing number of vw customers are women.
the points raised are what I would expect of any well managed authorised service centre. last time I used a dealer's workshop (fiat) I had to keep asking them NOT to wash the car each time but focus on fixing the fault and also to stop changing the radio station to crap fm.

" we can't pin a rose on it to warn you a woman service customer brought it in"
perhaps that's why vws had bud vases on the dashboard...

I don't think much has changed. My wife leases a car for work, and I tagged along last time she got one, a Subaru. The salesman was totally keying on me and ignoring her even after I told him I was just along for the ride, and "she's your customer, not me." I didn't even go on the test drive, but it didn't matter, she would ask a question and they would tell me the answer. This happened at two dealerships.

When she finally picked one she went into the office and I sat reading a book in the showroom. When they printed out the paperwork it was in my name, and she had to argue with them to redo it correctly. It was like they had never dealt with a married woman buying her own car before.

My youngest daughter was about 27 and looking for a used Subaru to replace her 1998 Pathfinder (she had to stay with 4WD/AWD because of snow where she was living). I told her I'd look at a 2013 at Autonation in Phoenix since I'd be there, and then let her know if it was worth her making the trip.

So I drove the Subaru, looked it over, told the salesman or sales manager that my daughter would contact them, and I was not involved any further. Well, they called me that night, and I told them to ONLY deal with her. She ended up buying that Subaru and has been fine with it.

Remember, all they knew was "a male", they had no idea I had background in auto mechanics, but assumed that I would be taking charge.

No, your right in a way. Some or perhaps much of the older generations still think this way. The scale has been flipped. And with it some not so good ideologies.

I vote for dropping the reins and let them have a go at everything.
I'm fine staying home and cleaning and cooking and would have
a lot more time for fishing and working on my bug.

Come on guys drop those reins.. how bad could it get?
