My son popped the clutch, and now it won't go anywhere. It makes a banging noise when you push on the gas, and it won't drive. |

before pulling the engine to check for broken cloth/pressure plate, check for:
stripped drum splines.
broken axle
broken spider gears |

I've broken spider gears and managed to drive home. Very gently! _________________ I have learned over the years.

A stripped rear drum spline on either side is easiest thing to check, and not too uncommon. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. I bet it is the throw out bearing holder. Or it could be some of the springs in the clutch the fell out. One reason to use the rigid clutch disc. _________________ Volkswagen: We tune what we drive.

If the OP can shift into different gears and still no forward motion that it's not clutch related unless the "entire" pressure plate failed which is very unlikely! |

You didn't do any work to the axles or trans recently? If so it could be slipped axles. |
