What do you think of Ad number 2523885 , an ad that seems almost too good to be true. I know he says that all is the matter is the alternator bolt is stripped. but you cant even start it. But it seems to be built with alot of great parts. I have read about it, even gone into the VolksWorld file....what am I not seeing here. It seems that the current month on Volksworld is its SWANSONG. Built by a different person than is selling it. Please if you know something, set this straight. |

here's a link to the ad https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=2523885
and part of article from volksworld website
have you spoken to the advertiser and asked why he's selling it? it does seem odd to sell such a niche car without sorting the alternator problem. I've not read the full article so has this car clocked up any miles on the road? seems like it was a long project build then stored. _________________ "we're here on Earth to fart around" kurt vonnegut

Finster, thanks for the link....no he doesnt answer my emails and the car has only clocked less than 300 miles since built. Cannot find a lead for Bill Griffiths who built the motor either. Seems crazy to take SOOOOO long on a build only to sell it as it appears in VolksWorld (this month). My question is, why wouldnt you just fix it if that was the ONLY thing wrong. A sum of the pieces seems to make this worthy. Thanks, again, for your input and link. |

Well, I just got an email from the current owner .....who tells me in no uncertain terms to "just read Volksworld" for the details.....he answered none of my current questions, only that he was at work....yadda, yadda, yadda. Again, why just an alternator......."seems like a dime holding up a dollar". Seems strange, hearing from him the minute this is posted. |

Well, since it won't start, it's worth just the price of parts in it, at best.
I'd offer half his asking price tops.
If he asks why so low tell him to just read the ad.
Sounds like a dick (and I won't comment on his name).
His profile lists no activity on the Samba save for this ad, though he joined five years ago. Strange. |

Are you interested just for the 'go fast' parts? Remember that this was built as a race car, and as such, is probably not very suitable for street driving as is.
If you're thinking about flipping the parts, you might want to see receipts for everything used in the engine and transaxle build...that's a lot of expensive stuff that can't be verified unless it's all torn down. _________________ '63 Ragtop (current)

I am interested or was interested in most of the go fast parts. You are right, they are or were way expensive parts. He didnt have time to answer my questions, but emailed me saying it was sold (and I was the first to contact him) KTPhil was probably right about name being Dick. I even asked about shipping, which he didnt answer..........oh well, probably just as well. This thing smelled fishy from the start. I dont need another project and rcooled is right , a definite tear down. |
