Might as well go ahead and make it a walkthrough...that doesn't hurt anything right? Then you can add those Camaro seats... _________________ <---Air Cooled Search & Rescue Team - STICKERS & T-shirts for sale!

Hey Everett
I believe jul62 and later non panel is all the same AFAIK. Has anyone ever mapped out how many full bulkheads there are?
I know of at least 8 different full bulkheads (not counting barndoor).
2 of each type, panel and non-panel
late 50s to Oct 60
rising sun, bench seat, no tire bracket.
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/album_page.php?pic_id=212702
Oct 60 to Jan 62
rising sun, 3 position bench, no tire bracket
Jan 62 -June 62
rising sun, 3 position bench, with tire bracket
June 62-up to 67.
Full sun, split bench, w/tire holder bracket, Deeper recess

Am I missing any?
I just happen to have a grey back/pearl white front bulkhead, I don't remember if it's panel or non panel, I'll look. Mmmm nothin like repairing og buses with og paint parts. |

Pertaining to the bulkhead discussion, I have a '67 OG paint nice Kombi non-walk thru. It looks as if the PO was trying to 'tow' something behind the bus by opening the rear hatch and running a rope or chain thru the cabin and hooked it up to the bulkhead - and let er rip.
The result is a nice 6-8" bend in the whole bulkhead from the center toward the rear of the bus. The seats still line up ok, but it is the first thing you notice when looking at the bus.
Is this something I should worry about repairing? Perhaps trying to 'bend' the whole bulkhead back into shape the other direction? Or just not worth the hassle?
This is a very nice bus and am not certain major surgery like replacing with a doner would be a good idea.
Thoughts? |

Old thread but I couldn't find the info anywhere..... Does anyone know when the spare tire well on a walk through bus went from one drain hole to two?
April '61 with one drain hole
Late '63 with the bumps with two drain holes
Can someone with a '62 walk through post a pic of their spare tire well and provide the build month? _________________

Thank you for the response Kommercial! This helps us narrow it down.
Can someone with a 1962 Walk-Through bus please let us know if your bus's spare tire well has one drain hole or two drain holes?
Thanks _________________

June62- 2 drain holes. (And factory pad?)
January, 30th, 62- 2 drain holes, if the judges will accept the half arc hole before it is lost to time.
Seems like it's pushing it into the 61 year change... |

Hi Greg,
The April '61 pic posted above is Clara's flipseat and Lind's June '61 is a flipseat as well. My assumption is whether it is a flipseat, swivel seat, or walk through, it would have the same number of drain holes depending on the year, which is either one or two.
For the record, I have not looked at a '58 walk through to confirm if it has a drain hole. _________________

my april '58 walkthrough has two smaller holes spaced further apart than the later holes.
Also, I would speculate that the first use of these holes was to drain primer out of the spare tire well after they dunked the body in a vat of primer. _________________ .
