Hi all - before I do something wrong can anyone point me to a thread or diagram documenting how to tear down an AL82 for cleaning, bearing maintenance and so on?

Got her all apart without much drama. Ordered new bearings, voltage regulator. Does anyone know if the brush assembly is available as a spare part? I can only find the brush assembly for the version with the voltage regulator as part of the assembly where as mine has it in the rear by the fan end.

There are places that sell rebuilt alternators on EBay. I sent one of them an email and they sold me the brush assembly.

Do you have that seller's name? I presume you are talking about the brush assembly that does not have the voltage reg integral to it?

Got her rebuilt with new bearings voltage regulator a bushing I turned up out of Delran for the battery post and a good cleaning. I am fairly certain there’s approximately 2.75 mm gap his correct base I’m looking at other photos but figured I might as well post to be sure

I've never measured that. The 3 screws tight? It is what it is. How is the end and out of the armature? That's what's important.

Speaking of the armature, it looks like this one was clamped in a vise.

Yes the previous owner had clamped it in a vise. I cleaned up some of the damage on the Lathe. Thanks for the eBay link that looks like the correct brush holder.

I am doing an alternator conversion to a 912 using Zim's kit. I'm at the point where the new rear hub they supply is installed on the alternator. I am confused as the hub makes contact with the case. The piece of paper demonstrates this. Surely this can't be the intention as that would be metal on metal contact. The woodruff key is in place and otherwise everything fits up nicely. Am I missing something?

You're missing the little spacer ring that goes on the shaft, seats on the bearing inner race, and protrudes a
little out the end. The fan hub seats on the spacer.

Thanks. That spacer would be installed from the rear, correct? I suppose this wasnt included with the used alternator I Bought. Does anyone have a photo of it?

they don't always come with the spacer and some get lost if not secured

Thanks for the picture. Checking to make sure the piece missing is not this one, which I installed on the shaft as shown, so that its captive in the case. Is that correct and I am missing another spacer, one without a step on it?

You have the part in front of the rear bearing circled in red. You need part on the other side of the rear bearing.

Thanks - I had that part sitting in a little box all along.

Does anyone know of a repro source for the front Pully hub for an early Porsche 350w generator? Part 53906201

I know this post is a year old but do you have a list of parts that you used for the rebuild? Like bearings, rectifier etc?
