Does anyone know where this wire goes? I removed my steering column on my 71 bay to replace the rubber steering coupler and just noticed this dangling.

Thanks.

Strange that it changes color

Wiring diagram suggests it might go to a door buzzer

What accessory does not work since the repair? There’s your clue. Key on, check that wire for voltage.

Most likely cut off and stuffed away by PO. Your repair merely exposed it.

I too think it is the buzzer wire.

Looks like two options per the wiring diagram for white wire with a black stripe

Option #1: Terminal #56 on the Dimmer Relay to terminal #56 on the light switch.

Option #2: Coming From L2, seated beam unit, right headlight to the fuse box (8 amp)

If the wire is originally gray with black stripes (and just faded to look white), it is possibly the buzzer going to F2 on the diagram.

Wipe the wire with a cleansing wipe and usually the color will be obvious.

The connector was pretty standard and was used to extend connections. I highly doubt brown wire is a ground, but whatever the person repairing it had.
