|
|
I need some tips on troubleshooting and fixing my right front bullet signal. I noticed the wire had come loose. I removed the rubber boot from the back of the bullet. I stripped what appears to be a green wire a bit connected it to the back of the bullet and tightened the screw that holds the wire. There also seems to be a second wire in the "loom" along with the green wire but it is not connected to anything and has broken off or was trimmed and not connected? How should the wiring to this bullet be connected? I checked the left side which is working and there is also only a single wire connected? No ground? How does this work? Thanks in advance.

Seems to simply be missing the gound. I grabbed a wire and touch one end to the base of the bullet turn signal the other end to the bumper and the turn signal works as expected. I just need some advice on how this piece should be grounded?

might be best to remove the bulb holder (#10) and give it a good check over and clean. I can't remember how it grounds especially as there's a rubber washer/seal thingy which suggests it's not via the nut on the back.
do you know there is a wiring diagram here https://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/wiringt1.php _________________ "we're here on Earth to fart around" kurt vonnegut

Thanks @Finster this is good information. It does seem to just ground to the fender. I just grabbed it and wiggled a bit and now it is working. It is tight but maybe I can tighten the nut a bit more. |

I see you're new here, is your oval new to you? it's worthwhile going round all the connections and grounds and having a fettle, behind the dash too... _________________ "we're here on Earth to fart around" kurt vonnegut

I am new to the Oval and aircooled VW's too. I did have a Porsche 912 many years ago. Fortunately the car is fully restored and well sorted. This is the first problem I have had in about 6 months.

Since you are new to the Oval, it's worth mentioning that the bulb base is grounded to the fender as mentioned before, but the fender needs to be grounded to the body through the numerous fender bolts. If the car had a complete blown apart repaint, there is a good chance that the fender is not making a good electrical connection through the fender bolts back to the body. Check with an Ohmmeter to be sure. _________________ '57 Beetle- Horizon Blue

If the fender is providing a good ground through the fender bolts, then check that the special serrated washer (part 12 in diagram above) is clean and tight, and contacting good metal. _________________ "Criticism comes easier than Craftsmanship"
