Well chaps
Very strange thing here, and my friend and I would like to know if anyone on that side of the pond has see this before.
Back story, lovely 56 Oval on a 63 chassis, my mate has got it in to do a couple of jobs on it. He just sent me a couple of photos to see if I had ever seen one, and obviously I haven’t would like to have the car though

You'd know what that is if you lived in New England instead of Merry Olde England. That's a block heater. If your Bug is soggy and hard to light in way below zero temperatures you plug that in, go have a cuppa. Your Bug is more likely to start after a little heat.
We used to plug 'em in all night.
Ours are 110- 120v. Yours is likely 230v.

The car or at least the engine is probably imported frpm Sweden. Many cars had these to heat the oil for easier starts in the cold winter.
Still available if you want a new https://www.mekonomen.se/oljevarmare-defa-10143910 |

Thank you Dusty1
Yes Pelle, I think you are correct, the car was definitely from Europe.
The item has been removed and cleaned up a bit, and I’ve definitely learned something new today
Also 220v

Hang on to it, those things are getting hard to find for those of us that live in cool climates. _________________ Our cars get old, we get old but driving an old VW never gets old! |

Somebody had similar at the swapmeet at the Volksworld Show over here last weekend.
Looked to be NOS in the original box. .
The other end of his stall had complete Hazet toolkits so I do not expect it was cheap either. _________________ Ancient vehicles and vessels
