Im installing a new doghouse oil cooler its got the step seals.

My question is how tight do i tighten the oil cooler to the adapter , till the seals start to bulge.

I can tighten it till it almost bottoms out.

Book claims 60 lbs per inch.

does that also spec out for the adapter to case torque

Thanks in advance

Somewhere on the Samba there is an good picture showing all the permutations of oil coolers, washers and standoffs. Some of them are tightened down onto washers, with others the standoffs of the cooler define the limit.
The squash of the seals is usually limited by metal to metal contact around the studs.

That would make a great sticky. Possibly even saving someone from making a costly mistake.

60 lbs per inch may be the same as 60 inch pounds but it sure thru me. 5 foot pounds or 60 inch pounds.

Once you get that low it's more consistent and accurate to measure in inch pounds.

I have a nice 1/4" drive torque wrench that only goes up to 100 inch pounds I like for this stuff.
