ok, i have been making and selling type iv stat brackets for like 10 years, but i found this, i have no idea what i am looking at
on the left = typical type iv stat bracket = funky washer
on the right = stat bracket + heat shield + super funky washer, that something bolts to
so i ask,
what car is this for?
what years is this for?
what attaches to the funky washer? _________________ Volkaholic |

Well from what I can tell....its NOT from a 411 or 412 up through at least the first few months of 1973 model year.
However....it is possible that extra plate "MAY" be the retaining plate that the 411/412 parts book says to remove. But, neither one of your T-stat bracket pictures are exactly like the 411/412 parts book bracket. Notice that the "heat shield" is on the opposite side. Not exactly sure is actually a heat shield.
Oh....wait....that bracket and that extra piece are from a Porsche 914 and possibly some 912.
I cannot find my Porsche 914 book at the moment but here are some clues....
From a French site:
From Auto-Atlanta:
Remember that the 914 has the engine in backwards to a bus or 411/412....so it has really long heater boxes and different sled tins. This L shaped plate should have a welded on nut and a sheet metal screw comes up from below through the sled tin.
