Have two questions about these torsion arms. The one pitted is it damaged beyond repair? Seems the major pitting is between the bearing and sleeve area. Second is the one with the end cap popped off. Is there a way to repair this? Are both of these issues a waste of my time? If so should I replace all four of them and who to purchase from? Thank you for any help.

They don’t look bad to me. What’s important is the bearing areas. I don’t see any pitting or wear marks in that area. How to the bearings look? That is most important too.
I see nothing wrong those parts. The cap you should be able to tap back on. You can stake it to prevent it from falling out again.

Bearings don’t look to far gone. But I am replacing them with rebuild of front beam. So just wire wheel, light emery cloth, and some rust converter for the pitting? I’d only like to have to do this once for right now and hopes it will all last a couple of years

Those look good to me, too! Spray some Ospho on them for the rust. Then get them greased up so they cannot get wet again!

I forgot if it was a sliver dollar or half dollar piece that can replace the end cap.

Id be iffy on that inner bearing surface, it doesn’t look great. Really and truly though with the amount of use VWs get, it probably won’t amount to a hill of beans,.. would just wear the inner bearing/bushing faster.

Another way to say it: If you have other options, explore those first, but if you absolutely cannot find a deal on some cleaner trailing arms, just stick those in and keep an eye out for any weird tire wear.

Where are you located, even here in the rust belt I could find a better set. But check the classifieds here they shouldn’t be too much. They made millions of these things. My opinion is get a better set, you already have them apart

I had this issue on one of my old torsion arms several years ago, and ended up filing down and installing a metal cap used to plug knockout holes in home electrical boxes. More details and pics in this old thread: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=8398890

swap arms to the other side. The arms wear more on one side of the bearing surface than the other.
