Is there any place we can check the chassis number for Brazilian and NIgerian models to confirm the year?

For what its worth, I know the actual manufacture date of my south african made beetles engine and chassis and that seems to follow very closely the numbers shown on this page.

https://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/bugchassisdating.php

it would appear to me (from this one example 😜) that VW somehow coordonated the numbers in different countries.

That would be a relatively easy feat if the Brazilian and Nigerian cars were actually assembled from CKD (complete knocked-down) kits rather than from scratch.

A lot of countries had high import tariffs on complete fully assembled cars and trucks but manufacturers could get around that by shipping in a CKD kit that included everything needed to assemble the car and have it assembled locally.

I don't know however if that was the situation with Brazil and Nigeria. Brazil may have started that way but eventually VW was doing full assembly from scratch there. Nigeria I would think would be much more likely to be assembling CKD kits.

If that were the case, then the floorpans and engines would have been manufactured in Germany and so one would expect the numbering system to conform with the German numbering system.

I would suspect the opposite, the chassis and engine numbers would have been applied at the factory and then would 100% be the same as the numbers ranges versus dates that we see form the factory. But I'm just guessing.

I've asked my friend to check the tunnel. These are the numbers on the documents. But they are not always correct.

Checked stamping. Original stamping. No preceding 11 or 111

@Maddel. Thanks for that info. This confirms that 1500s were produced for Nigeria even after Brazil stopped using them in 75.
