| I have a rail buggy, I am doing an IRS swap and I got to the clutch and the trans I have is the newer style with the throwout bearing sleeve. I want to know if I can just use my old throwout bearing/shift fork with my original clutch pressure plate(just not use the bearing sleeve). Or do I need to buy a new clutch and bearing? |

| Anyone? You figure the mismatch of parts over the years someone would know the answer. |

The mis match is so simple most probably think you are smart enough to figure it out, therefore have not replied,,,,, simply remove the ring on the pressure plate and leave the trans side alone,,,,,,yes it is that simple. _________________ There are no stupid questions, only stupid people,

| Yes, what he said. Take the thing off the pressure plate. |

This is my first VW, a lot of quirks on a pile of frankenstien parts manufactured 50 years ago.
Now back to my issue that still does not have an answer. I have the NEWER IRS trans with the bearing sleeve, it has bolt studs for the sleeve guide. I have a clutch and bearing for the OLD style trans without a bearing sleeve. I am asking if I can just NOT use the bearing sleeve(there is still three bolt studs in the trans case) and use my original NON-sleeve bearing and clutch. |

It'll work using the old throwout bearing and PP without the sleeve guide. The sleeve guide is safer. I had a throwout bearing clip come off and disintegrate, luckily for the guide tube as it kept the throwout bearing off the trans shaft. |

How about, yes you can, unless it is a 72 or later irs trans. But why would you want to go backwards and also create more work? The simple solution that has been done probably since before you were born is just to remove the ring from the pressure plate and use the later throw out bearing and guide sleeve. _________________ There are no stupid questions, only stupid people,

I'm sure I could do it, but I would not want to do it.
The diameter of the shaft may be different, check that. |
