Unbelievably I have lost my keys to my 66 beetle 😣
I understand that you can get new ones cut from the serial number on the door handles and ignition barrel?
Where is the serial number on the ignition barrel and can any locksmith do it or does it have to be done by VW

Search is you friend

Remove your door handles. The code is stamped on the mechanism.

For getting keys cut, some locksmiths can cut from the code

Some vendors on here do too. Check seller feedback before ordering

Cheers!

A locksmith could probably make one IF they have a blank but that is not likely unless they specialize in old VW's.

Here is a good post on how to find your key code...

Depending on if it is an SC, SV or SU profile there are vendors who sell blanks or if you're lucky (like me!) they might have an NOS factory cut key in stock that fits...

I ordered a new key from the code on the drivers door handle and surprise..It doesn't fit the Ignition barrel .I have taken the barrel off but cant see a code so not sure if it's a later or non original barrel? I need to get the car started so not sure whether to replace the whole thing
