I've just become the CO of the old linear power 65'ghia, will be beginning restoration soon, looking for any and all old pics of the car, I only have a handful to go by but none of the interior. She's kinda rough at the moment but is complete less engine & interior. If you have ANY old pics of the car, please post them. This is how she sits now.

I used to have a poster of that car back in the 80's that I picked up at a stereo shop. It was an artists' rendition, rather than a photo.
Any idea how the car came to be in that state? I'm curious to know how it spent the last 20 or so years. |

That would be awesome to see, I'm still researching it but I know it was owned by a guy that has/had a vw shop in Jackson but before that idk. I have a couple pics of the car from after the big wing was installed that have ms plates but that's about it.. |

I was able to get in touch with the owner of linear power who told me how to get in touch with the original builder. More updates coming soon. Unfortunately, the engine had gotten trashed by one of the po's. But I plan to put another in its place |

It's actually a bug sunroof that was grafted in after they did the chop. |

Yes, the roof is absolutely GONE lol.. rest of the car is actually very solid, little rust in the package tray, little bit in the heater channels but that's about it. |

It is pretty crusty. It looks like it needs a roofotomy and a fresh chop.
This seems like a cool project. I just dont think I would ever attempt to bring back the 80's. Be careful. |
Roof is gone.. I've got a solid roof clip already that will be used, also have another useable steel sunroof to graft in. I'm bringing it back because the car had alot to do with my obsession with Vws as a child & i feel honored to be able to own it! Lol |

Oh, & i will be adding my own little subtle touches to it but I'm staying as true to the original builds as possible! |

If I had a nickel for every time I've heard a new Karmann Ghia owner say that their new project Ghia has only "a little bit of rust" in the rockers/heater channels, I'd have enough money saved up to pay a professional body shop to perform a Ghia rocker replacement ... and that isn't cheap!
Regardless of whatever rust repair work needs to be done on that sweet iconic piece of the 1980's , that's quite a score you've made - Congratulations!
I wish you much luck and great success in your restoration, it definitely sounds like the Ghia ended up in the right hands. |

Lol its not my first ghia, i know how bad they usually are, which is what I expected but I was seriously surprised at just how solid this one actually is. The only reason the roof is as bad as it is, is because it's full of old open cell spray foam lol.
I'm glad that i have the opportunity to bring this car back! |

Ok, so I have been fortunate enough to get in touch with the owner of linear power, who put me in touch with the original builder as well as the 2nd owner. The original builder is sending me copies of the pictures he has of the builds over the years as well as one of the posters that they had done back then. May even be able to get my hands on the original cali license plates! So far the research stage is off to an amazing start & hopefully the restoration will take off this great as well! Will be posting the rest of the pics I've taken of the cars so far shortly, & more to come as the rebuild progresses. |
