Paul- Your best bet is finding originals. I have never seen any "suppliers" that have the proper screws. They might work but the heads are different and I believe a friend got some from WW and the threads were a different size as well from what I recall. _________________ Please check us out on Instagram at @holygrailgarage

scott, that pic is of the later style screw. the early busses use dome topped, philips headed, machine screws, not self tapping ones like in that pic.

I agree with hazetguy's comment on the use of machine screws... which is what my 59 double cab uses, and which is what I pulled for Paul, however, all the screws I have that match the thread and length are phillips head, not slotted. _________________ Sounding like a broken record as to why You should be measuring protein during harvest in order to better your agronomic practices. |

so are the ones that you have for paul slotted or phillips? I have some spare slotted ones if yours are phillips. they should be slotted for that application. _________________ .

I'm sending you the two phillips screws tomorrow... I'm poking Jon on the phillips vs slotted issue. My 59 had the phillips head screws.
Lind, you also say slotted.... hmmm.
I'll check the march 59 firebus and see what it has this evening. _________________ Sounding like a broken record as to why You should be measuring protein during harvest in order to better your agronomic practices.

well dave, you may be right on the slottted/phillips. i went to check on my 56's, and neither of them had brackets on the doors. so i checked my 59, and they are indeed a phillips. initial post edited. |

they must have used both. I will have to check my hardware stash. I seem to only remember pulling slotted ones off of cars. _________________ .

the parts manual says 4.8 x 19mm self tapping, with no mention of a change. My 59 dc is definately a machine screw. _________________ Sounding like a broken record as to why You should be measuring protein during harvest in order to better your agronomic practices. |

you need to consult an earlier parts book.
the machine screws in my 59 are 5 x .8 x 10 dome top, phillips head, and i am pretty certain they are original to the bus. that size screw by the way, should not be a very difficult fastener to find at a hardware store or metric harware supplier like www.metricmcc.com
yes Lind, there seems to be a threaded nut or plate in the door. the stamping for the door has a larger hole than the threaded part behind it.
