Haven't seen a thread pop up yet for Transporterfest in Brookline MA.
This is a great show on the lawn of the Larz Anderson Auto Museum which is always filled with some of the automobile's greatest history.
The show is always held on the Sunday before Columbus day, but perhaps more exciting still is the pre-show campout in Salem, Massachusetts at Winter Island Park in Salem. Our group regularly camps in the coveted "igloo" area, so named for it's igloo shaped domes cut into the concrete walls of this once-munitions' storage area.
Camping officially begins on Friday, but a few folks arrive Thursday - and even Wednesday to take in the area before the "October busy season" sets off on the weekends in Salem.
There is a ton to do in the area for history buffs, shoppers, ghouls and goblins alike. We like too take the ferry or the train into Boston for a day to explore too.
On Sunday morning there is an early morning caravan from Salem down to Transporterfest in Brookline. It is about a 50 minute drive but is an awesome experience to see so many buses and vans rolling 30-40 deep.
Hoping to see some folks show up this year, If anyone wants to join, we always love company! Feel free to reach out if you want to cruise up together, or arrive a bit early to explore Salem and Boston with some self-proclaimed veteran pros! _________________ Mike

I'll be there! If it hasn't sold yet, I'll have the Vanagon at the show this year.

Likewise, I'll be there with the Eurovan.
Had a few tire kickers come to look, wouldn't mind getting back into something vintage; these are really nice and well equipped campers though!
Are you coming to Salem?
I have been camping in Salem since I graduated HS in 2003, every year I say "I should bring a bike!" - this is the year I do! LOL

This is the thread. There isn’t going to be another.
Given the size of our group, and the capacities of the Igloo and Fort Pickering at Winter Island there’s not much room for too many more campers and as such the “advertising” of the campout is - let’s say - toned down.
I’ll be arriving Thursday as usual. Most campers come Friday or Saturday. As with years past, we’ll have our usual caravan to Brookline on Sunday morning, likely rolling out at 8 am. I’ll be posting a link to the route in the next few days.
As a reminder, or for any new folks. There is a road race through Boston every year. Your GPS and Google will tell you the fastest route is straight south of Salem through Boston into Brookline. This is a very, very bad idea. You WILL get stuck at road closures. Additionally, the route through Boston has far too many turns, narrow streets, stop signs, and lights which would separate the caravan. We will be taking the route around Boston avoiding it altogether, this is the same route we’ve taken every year. It is IMPERATIVE that you only join the caravan if you plan to follow us ALL THE WAY. Every single year someone in the middle of the line decides they know a better route, or need to stop for fuel and inevitably wind up detouring half the caravan on the wrong path. Arrive to Winter Island fueled up. Do not separate from the caravan. If you have a FRS radio bring it. _________________ Mike

Last time he and I spoke, he wasn't.
If you've been in the past, you're "in" for the same site you were on years past.
You've always been the Igloo... The "quieter" side is down at Fort Pickering. _________________ Mike

Dan, you were on the lists years past - you won't have any issue.
For any Salem NOOBs, I'm putting together a list of some of the best spots to hit - historical, museums, architectural, landmarks et al.
October is a free-for-all in Salem, so much so they may as well call it Bedlam...
There are tons of "pop up museums" that are pure tourist traps - but there are also some great spots that shouldn't be missed.
I'll also be sharing the route the caravan takes on Sunday morning.
Looking forward to catching up with everyone!
I think we're going to decorate the camper this year, just for fun. lol _________________ Mike

Yep, Salem in October is mayhem but something everyone should experience at least once.
Hope to see you in NJ this weekend Mike

Thanks Mike for starting this thread! I can’t believe we’ve been camping at Salem for 11 years.
Our group camping is all full. The campground uses Reserve America for site reservations. They may still have some other sites available.
We are camping at Winter Island Park, 50 Winter Island Rd., Salem, 01970. We are in two group areas, with no electricity or water. The campground has nice clean free showers, a small office/store, and great views of the Ocean and Salem harbor. We will be camping Thur. Oct. 5, Friday Oct. 6, Saturday Oct. 7, leaving Sunday Oct. 8th, by caravan for the Transporterfest show in Brookline, MA. Camping is $20/night, cash only, pay Stan when you arrive.
The Transporterfest show has been happening since the late 80s. We typically get about 190 show cars and 20+ swap meet vendors. Show or swap is the same: $20 cash only. No pre-registration. Rain or shine. Museum admission is including with show or swap fee. Show hours 9am-3pm. Swap set-up at 8am.
The show is here:

Welcome to the thread Stan! We missed you!
Can't wait to get up to Salem again.
I'll be arriving Thursday afternoon if anyone wants to join. Spoke to the campground and there are few spaces in addition to the group area if you so choose.
The Haunted Happenings Halloween Grand Parade is Thursday night which is always fun - I suggest viewing from Derby Street, I'll be on the front deck of Bit Bar! _________________ Mike
