Wondering how folks have problem solved replacing the fuel lines going in to, out of the fuel filter. Had the belly pan off Sunday to change oil and doing the inspection of everything while there, I'd like to replace these just because but there appears to be no such thing as the part anywhere that I can find. Remove the whole set-up and take to a hose shop to re-use the OE fittings? _________________ 1991 Vanagon GL 2.1 AT Westfauxlia. You sure you are talking about the fuel pump? That's in the tank and accessed from inside the vehicle.
That shiny silver cylinder under the van is the filter.. or maybe not so shiny.
A picture would help..
Here's the original fuel pump from my 1993 I replaced a couple years ago.. outlet and return lines are hose clamps or oetinger type if unmolested.. internal to the unit are similar to original vw fuel injectors when they come out of the box with the hose attached. The pump mech sits in the bottom of the tank and connects with a twist and the inlet line portion attaches to the top of the tank. Its underneath the carpeting near the parking brake... remove seats, seat pedestal and more,, then peel back carpet.. not fun.

You are 100% correct and I'm a dummy. I meant fuel FILTER. I truly appreciate the correction. One of the things I was glad for when I bought my van is the PO had just paid to replace the fuel PUMP when it went on a road trip, so I hopefully don't have to worry about that PITA job for a while.
Any input appreciated! _________________ 1991 Vanagon GL 2.1 AT Westfauxlia. "Frankie" Totaled https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=764510&highlight=carnage

when I made new fuel lines this was a 5/16 "swan" hose I ordered on Amazon. It's a hose with multiple bends. |

Interesting, batesEV.
I'll take a picture when I next have the belly pan off and will update this thread.
It looks like you replaced the crimped end connection with something else, which is what I'm wanting to know how to do. _________________ 1991 Vanagon GL 2.1 AT Westfauxlia. "Frankie" Totaled https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=764510&highlight=carnage

Hi - I realize this is an old thread. New Rialta (95 Eurovan) owner. I have the exact same leak on my fuel filter. Could you please share a bit more about the repair? I see the "Swan" hose on Amazon - great tip - never seen this before. Did you then run hard line back to the fuel pump, or more hose? Was it difficult to route? Or did you terminate it at the existing plastic hose somehow?
Did you also replace the line going to the engine? Similar approach?
Thanks much... |

Use oetiker clamps on thst filter since itβs a 100,000 mile replacement item. You will need a good set of crimping tools but there are reasons these are used on the car ftom the factory. A car is a high vibration and chafe environment so be careful how you route hoses and protect any where they touch anything. _________________ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ π π π |

I have left mine alone as they are not leaking, but I still want to replace it. I'll take pictures this weekend as I have other reasons I'll be taking the belly pan off. _________________ 1991 Vanagon GL 2.1 AT Westfauxlia.
