Good day...just finishing collecting parts to replace pushrod tubes on 1978 VW Super Beetle...the lower three pieces of tin that protect the tubes is badly rusted. As shipping for OG parts can get a bit pricey over the Canadian border thought I'd check out CIP.1/Cip2 website. They have an assortment for 1600 CC motors that the sales person thought would fit with some bending... However, I wondered if the different heater boxes on the FI models will impact fitment...The ad states that they only fit models to 74....Sales person did not know and once you bend them, you've bought them so I thought I'd ask if anyone with an FI Beetle has used these cip1/cip2 tins with success..
This is the one I'm looking at:
VWC-043-119-355-SET - HIGHEST QUALITY FROM GERMANY - LOWER ENGINE COOLING TIN SET - 3 PIECES - 1300CC-1600CC ENGINES - BEETLE 66-74 - GHIA 66-74 - VW THING 69-79 - SOLD SET
EmpI also has one that is thinner gauge metal:
ACC-C10-5445 - 8948 - CIP1 - 3 PIECE HEATER BOX TIN - BLACK - WILL DO BOTH LEFT & RIGHT SIDES (WILL REQUIRE BENDING TO FIT) - ALL 40HP 12-1600CC BEETLE ENGINES - SOLD 3 PIECE SET

AS the EMPi part has no year limitation, I thought I'd have more luck with it...although I would prefer the thicker molded piece? Anyone used this with FI motor? With thanks.

I haven't used either, however be careful with the EMPI stuff - most vendors don't know a lot about what will or won't fit fuel injected engines, and it's happened to me several times where I've bought a part that fit a 72-77 standard beetle, for example, only to find out after receiving it that the vendor didn't intend for "72-77" to include FI beetles. It's a crap shoot. I got lower engine tins for my FI engine used from the classifieds, which, if you're not looking for a show-car, can be a decent option. Good luck.

They are nothing like carb tins, save up your money and get the real thing:

Strangely when you search "sled tins" or "lower tins" in 68 up beetle parts all there is is FI ones, it can't hurt to contact all the sellers and see what they can do on shipping. Owning a classic car hurts sometimes, but you'll regret not just coughing up the couple extra bucks for the genuine item later.
