For cars without reliable gas gauges, there is a small plastic box with resettable odometer like numbers.
When one fills the tank, a reference to the car's speedometer reading is dialed into one of the "meters" and, if desired, the target fill up mileage can be dialed into the other.
I tried every name I could think of when searching google and eBay and only came up with electronic devices that didn't really do what I'm looking for.
Is there a name I could search or better yet, a source for such devices?

It took me a few to find the vintage mileage counter that you are seeking.

Thank you both. I was using those terms on google and on ebay. I had no luck there. I will order the one bugbus sells. Again, thank you!

aka mechanical odometer, mileage reminder.
These used to be $5 at the drug store auto section.
With shipping, they are over $100 from many sources. _________________ Current Fleet:

I found those, but those are thumb-actuated counters, like for inventory or crowd counting. You can't set a number, just reset to zero.
I remember being excited to see those in my search , until I found out how they worked. _________________ Current Fleet:

I have one on my Oval and one in a bus. I think I might have one somewhere else too. They are nice for keeping track of whatever mileage you set. If I recall correctly you turn it and it increases in large increments. Then you use the little lever on it and get it to the mileage. After that you have to thumb it up to the new mileage. If you drive 200 miles you have to press the lever 200 times. Just take a passenger with you and while you fill it up have them thumb it up to the next mileage. _________________ www.vwnos.com [email protected]
