I found these strange pouches in my convertible when doing some work. I don't have a clue what they are or what they are for. They look like they might be made from headliner material turned inside out and they are filled with fluff that looks similar to the insulation used around the heat duct mufflers.

There was one on each side, under the area where the convertible top hinge mechanisms fold.

Any ideas what these might be? Are they factory? Maybe to absorb leaking water?

Really? They are only about 6-8" tall and 3" thick.
I found them laying on the "floor" behind and to the sides of the rear seat area. Is this where they were originally placed? Or did they fall there from somewhere else?

Take a look at this thread:

https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=629547&highlight=socks

and here:
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=720003&highlight=pillow

and you'll get a better idea of where they came from. It seems that there could be two sets of these small-ish types of bags/pillows, one underneath the rear seat bottom and the other set "Stuffed back over the wheel wells from the inside all the way back. "

Look like the padding that goes next to the rear window sides.
