Would anyone know where you can buy just the chrome strip from the arm rest?

Those trim strips aren't available as separate pieces. The original pieces were metal. The trim on replacement arm rests is plastic, but it looks pretty good.

want ads for good used one/ with or without the assembly. I am not aware of any accurate repros sold sperately
a repo entire door pull can be bought new for around 30 bucks, but I dont know if the "chrome" will fit in an old assembly. I think the original early ones are polished aluminum, anodized bright. Repros might even be plastic, I think later Bugs might have used used plastic.
Call the sellers of the repros and ask if the "chrome " will fit and what it is made of. then buy a 30 buck repro assembly for the "chrome" IF it is the same, I just dont know. Else want ads for an original.

Alternatively you could buy some chrome strip on a roll from your autoshop, used by the tuning community.
I used this to fix my armrest for now (until I find a used one to replace)
Had to use some super glue to get it to stick around the corner

This also is plastic and chrome.

That original extruded aluminum trim is attached to a wire support that's embedded into the molded arm rest itself. The replacement arm rest trims are plastic that's had a silver coating applied, and they're attached with adhesive. It would be very difficult, and quite impractical, to remove the trim from a replacement arm rest without ruining it.

As I said, the original arm rest trim is different from that found on the new repros. Your best bet might be to just replace the entire arm rest with a new one. Yes, they're not made in exactly the same way as the originals, but they look very good...and only you'll know that they're not OEM.

This is a new arm rest on my '63 Beetle's original door panel ↓
