83 not going into gear

I have an automatic 83 that just wont get into gear. I have adjusted the shifter linkage and it moves the lever on the tranny. When I put it into gear it acts like it is in neutral. Any thought as this is my first automatic.. yes it has fluid and idles fine and I am sure it is moving the lever on the tranny.

Could be DOA. Check that the cable is not busted at the trans.....
you also might have lost a pump. If the pump went, you are not developing enough hydo presure internal..(damn my spelling!!!)

auto vanagon rebuild is $$$$ go with a used one
