2012 Jetta Sportswagon rear brake issues

Hi I am a frequent Vanagon poster but have a 2012 Jetta Sportswagon as my daily driver. So this will be my first "Jetta Post", hoping you guys are as helpful as the Vanagon forum. (I know you will be)
I am replacing the rear brake pads & rotors and have run into several issues. First none of the YouTube videos show my calipers. So I had to modify my 14mm 12 point to access the top bolt by removing the insert from the 1/2" socket and using a 14mm box wrench to remove this impossible to access top bolt. DONE!
Now with everything removed I can not seem to drive the piston back into the caliper. I have a homemade tool to do it with but it is just locked from moving back. I know these pistons move slowly but this one is locked like there is a check valve or some other mechanism.
Is there trick here?
Could the handbrake lock it up?
Do I need to open the bleed port and drain and then replace fluid in the reservoir?

I got it!

After reviewing the YouTube videos again , you must rotate the brake piston at the same time as you apply pressure to return it into the caliper
