Hi all

Do I need to upgrade my oil pump when installing an external oil filter?

You need either a filter pump combo or a full flow pump.

You can use a stock 26mm pump, you need to plug the oil outlet of the pump and use a full flow cover. You also need to drill and tap the case for the return line.

I have CB Performance Maxi2 filter pumps in both my 1835cc and 1600cc engines; one is vintage from early 1980s. I like them. They have 26mm gears, and versions for both flat and dished camshaft gears.

The second Maxi2 was purchased in 2016 and sadly the cover still needs modified so the tin doesn't contact the crankshaft pulley. But this is easy, removing a "fin".
