Hi folks, technical question for those who might have work this road before.

I have both front torsion bar of 4 pack and 5 pack leaf with one spring broken. Can I use a later 55 up?) thin torsion leaf pack (7 leaves) in a Barndoor?

They have all the same combined thickness (23mm aprox) of the original ones, with 98cm (38-1/2”) long.

Will the bus get softer in the front than a Cadillac from the 50s with 7 leaves? 😉 Joke, but from what I read more leaves = softer ride in Sambas and Standard buses.

Will buy spare 4 or 5 torsion springs if someone have available too.

Appreciate your feedback.

We put a set of later springs into my barndoor. You have to replace the block in the middle of the beam, which is no simple task. You use the later trailing arms, and they bolt right up to barndoor spindles.

The front end feels just like a later bus.

barndoor front torsions are notorious for breakage, I couldn't make a complete set of bars using 2 original beams.

I also installed full 55-67 front spring packs and center blocks and 55-63 trailing arms. I also used beam adjusters when doing this and I'm glad I did. This allows fine tuning to get the correct front height.

You'll notice that many "stock height" barndoors appear to ride low, I believe this is because so many buses have broken torsions as well as so many guys running taller 6.00-16 tires

Thanks for your replies. I will try to mount the 7 leaves with the original trailing arms, but will consider the adjuster to “fine” tune the height if the car get dropped.

Will take pictures if it works.

Anyone knows why the upper torsion springs were the one with 4 leaves and the lower with 5? At least is what it looks like in this poster.
