Pardon me if this appears to be a stupid question but my new spark plug set is designed to connect with my Bosch W7/8 plugs AFTER the screw-on cap has been removed. My existing plug socket (13/16ths) still works fine for plugs with that cap still in place on the plug's connector but DOESN'T work for plugs on which the cap has been unscrewed (and removed, as my new plug wire set requires).
Is there a special term to describe a 'capped' plug versus an 'uncapped' plug? If so, how do I describe this 13/16ths tool to the tool/parts supplier for the correct socket. Thanks. _________________ 1973 Standard Beetle, 1974 VW/Porsche 914-4, 1.8 liter

Never had a problem using the same 13/16 socket on plugs with and without the nipple. _________________ Glenn

Glenn, I can only conclude that the rubber insert in my socket is worn out from too many years of use, judging from what you've shared on this. Probably time to get a new socket...perhaps one with both a magnetic hold AND the usual rubber collar inside the socket. Thanks.
Nothing like wasting two whole hours trying to fish out a plug that dropped through the small plug hole in the engine shroud onto the cylinder head! GAAK! Another delightful possibility when working on a mid-engine in a car with a small overhead hatch grill..that should be removed for best access, I suppose!). I used to have a set of long medical forceps that were especially useful for tricky situations like that but they somehow disappeared over the years (perhaps 'pinched' by persons unknown for 'roach clips', LoL). Fortunately, the good old handy-dandy coat hanger is usually adaptable for such 914 conundrums! [Gives me a whole new appreciation for Typ-2 owners with even more limited engine-in-car work space to operate in...] _________________ 1973 Standard Beetle, 1974 VW/Porsche 914-4, 1.8 liter
