Hi guys
I may have found a NOS steering box.
The part number is 411 417 111B.
I can't find a reference in my 411 parts manual.
Can somebody please confirm that this will fit my 1969 RHD 411?
Cheers and thanks.

Not in my book either. Please post a picture or link and Ican tell you right off whether its a right hand drive. I will look in a different book and see if there is anything.

So the four empty bolt holes in your first picture can only go against the fore and aft (meaning side) firewall. These holes are where it bolts to the chassis.
The small shaft with the yellow paint mark attaches to the steering column shaft. The big splined output shaft faces downward.
If all of these things are true at one time....it can onl be a RHD steering gearbox.
Though I can easily flip it around and bolt it to the left hand firewall....the steering input shaft from the column would then face toward the front of the car and not rearward toward the steering column.

Not in my parts list but I did find one that is. I posted it below for you. Keep in mind these are parts for the American side so might be different.

Is that indicated by the 411 and 412? _________________ www.vwnos.com [email protected]

EDIT!
I love it when people make me think and dig out things that are not commonly seen!
Heimlich...yes....the 411 and 412 mean...ONLY IN THIS CASE...right and left hand drive!
So, the type 4 has some of the most screwed up nomenclature. In most part numbers, the 411 and 412 difference is early vs late.
BUT....before they started that...they had already named various "models"....411 and 412 in the "style sheet" or Table of Models. This refers to that.
Observe please:
This is the table of models from page 9 in the book.
Some detail.
Notice that the right hand drive models are: 412, 416, 422, 426 462 and 466.
The parts list. Both steering boxes are in the red ring. The yellow ring shows the 412 417 061 part number and to the right....shows that it fits models 412, 416, 422, 426 462 and 466....the RHD models.
So....the part number the OP is showing us is NOT the actual steering box part #.
Good call Heimlich!

Thanks for all of the information guys.
So, can one of you confirm that this steering box will definitely fit my 1969 RHD 411?
Cheers

From everything I can see...yes...its RHD. Look around on the box and look for other numbers. Ray |
