In 2019, we shipped our 1976 late bay to New York, for a planned 12 month road trip around North America. We spent six months exploring the US East coast and across the south.
With our visa running out, we headed to Baja for a planned five week stay, planning on returning to the US to head north up the West coast.
It was at that time that COVID hit the world and we found ourselves hiding away in the Baja desert with a couple from Germany.
Almost year years later and we just crossed into Argentina from Santiago de Chile.
Never in our wildest dreams did we imagine driving along parts of the Pan American Highway and our trip has taken us to some truly spectacular places. We have also met so many of the amazing VW community along the way. Regardless of the place, their passion is always the same.
Our final week in Chile was a grueling 1300km drive from the Northern coast, through Santiago and then over the Andes mountains into Argentina. Crossing the most amazing switchback road we have encountered on the trip.

Recently, our Pan American road trip which started in New York, took us to country 14 of our trip. We crossed into Argentina from Chile, driving over a stunning mountain pass over the Andes.
After familiarising ourselves with some of Mendoza's wineries, we set off to meet up with some other European overlanders near a reservoir back up in the Andes mountains.
We didn't realise just how insane the drive there would be and after a couple of days it was time to tackle a crazy switch back track back towards to the town of Malargüe.
