I have a 95 EVC with manual transmission with 240,000 miles (386,000 km).
I use synthetic oil 5W40 and get around 1500-2000 miles quart depending on conditions.
Just wondering how this stacks up against other Eurovans |

Speaking from the perspective of a 24V VR6 owner, I typically don't have to add any oil between change intervals (5k miles) due to consumption. I've had to add a bit of oil to compensate for a small leak but that has been repaired.
1litre/quart per 1500 miles is within factory specification from new for most vehicles, even those built today. Would I be happy adding oil that frequently on a new car? No! Considering the 10k+ mile factory specified intervals, one would need 5-6 liters of oil on hand to keep it topped up between intervals. |

I have a 1995 EVC with very similar mileage, and I've not noticed excessive oil consumption. I am religious about every 3000 mile oil changes, so maybe that masks excessive consumption? _________________ 1995 EVC - 5 cylinder manual |

2003 with a VR6 24V, 200K + miles, no oil consumption between 5K mile oil changes. _________________ If it ain't broke, don't fix it! |

Zero noticeable consumption on my 1995. Annual changes (would do 5k if hit that first, but it's not my daily). _________________ 1991 Vanagon GL 2.1 AT Westfauxlia. "Frankie" Totaled https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=764510&highlight=carnage

My last one was an '02 that I sold at 325K and it never used any oil. My present '03 has about 170k and it too uses no oil. I go about 4000 miles between changes. That reminds me, I'm due! _________________ '03 MV |

These are stout engines. My VR6 doesn't use any oil despite blowing a little blue smoke on cold start ups. I probably need to replace the valve stem seals. _________________ Casey--

Thanks everyone for their input. It seems my van falls on the side with some oil consumption but I am not going to worry about it. |
