I have two Type 3 transmissions and wanted to know if they could be used in a bus that is stock height?
One is a 67 swing axle, the other is 68-71? and IRS.
Other than having to flip the ring gear, are these geared in a way that would make them usable in a split window bus, or should I sell them to someone who wants to slam their bus on earlies?
From what I understand some later Beetle center sections are better/stronger than earlier 6 volt transmissions. _________________ WANTED:

Besides the ring gear flip, the '67 T3 has a 4:12R&P with 0.89 4th gear, where a Bus had the 0.82 4th gear.
You'd have a bit less top speed with the 0.89 4th, would be the only negative I can think of. _________________ "OG = Original German" -- TheSamba.com dictionary |

If you are keeping the redux boxes, you'll need to flip the ring gear. If you go with type 2 IRS you don't have to flip it. When I did my IRS it ended up about an inch hider than stock. _________________ Some people are so busy being clever they don't have time enough to be wise. |
