|
|
I have been searching for a new distributor for my 1984 Westy. I know that distributors are available for the 2.1 engine but not for the 1.9. About a year ago Cip advertised a distributor that would fit the 1.9. I bought one and when I received it I noticed that there was only one vacuum pot at the front. I contacted cip and they told me to connect the pot to the line that goes to the throttle body and plug off the other line. I also noticed that the electrical plug on my van was different than the one on the new distributor but cip told me to just make sure the three wires were connected the right way and not to worry about the actual plug. Anyway, I haven't done anything yet and I am wondering if anyone else had bought one of these distributors and if they were successful at making it work. The new distributor cip number is VWC-025-905-205-AD.
COM/DISTRIBUTOR T25-1.9 DF. If anyone knows anything about this distributor I would really appreciate hearing from you. |

PM DanHoug- he was making adapter test connectors for our Distributors- he probably has the correct wiring for your pin locations. https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=424805 _________________ '68 Westy- my first VW and vehicle/Bus- long gone.- sold it to a traveling Swiss couple....

Thanks ALIKA T3- are you able to get the 1.9 connectors as new- or are working off a stash of connectors. I thought, wrongly perhaps, that the 2.1 distributor connector was different from the 1.9 version, and it was very hard to find a new 1.9 style connector. _________________ '68 Westy- my first VW and vehicle/Bus- long gone.- sold it to a traveling Swiss couple....

The 1.9L and distributors are stock with oval connectors. The 2.1 connector is square. _________________ www.vwnos.com [email protected]

So, from the pictures, people are getting the later 2.1 distributors that are available, and installing them in an older 1.9. Then you need to swap the Oval 1.9 connector for the later 2.1 square version?

It isn't that simple in USA/CA models.
The 2.1 distributor is a static advance type so all of the advance is done electronically by the Digifant 2.1 ECU.
The 1.9 ECU does nothing for advance, it is all done in the 1.9 distributor.
The 1.9 distributor uses vacuum for part of the advance and rpm for part of the advance.
The 2.1 distributor does neither since the 2.1 ECU takes care of the advance.

The 2.1 distributor just spins. You can't use it in the older vehicle. There is no advance mechanism in it. They are taking the connector from these types of distributors and using them. _________________ www.vwnos.com [email protected]

Yes the 1.9L connectors can be bought 3D printed in Germany, Vanagain carries them.
The distributor I rebuilt, pictured is a 1.9L (see the diameter of the shaft and the felt in the center).
It has a new Hall Sender assembly from an Audi with the 2.1L style connector, but to fit, the body notch needs enlarging with a Dremel and I also replace the harness side connector with new pins since I have the crimper, much cheaper than the ugly rip off pig tail from GoWesty.
Vanagain sells such Hall Sender too. _________________ Silicone Steering Boots and 930 Cv boots for sale in the classifieds.

Do the connectors fit correctly? The ones I have seen which are blue in color fit too tightly. You can press it in but you can't unplug it easily. I think they were chinese and didn't look 3d printed.
I can rebuild your hall sensor with Bosch electronics (not Chinese) for $150.
For $200, I have the tops of Bosch units. Just take your existing one apart and attach it.

Right, I had forgotten the ECU control of the Digifant system since I don't live with it day to day... _________________ '68 Westy- my first VW and vehicle/Bus- long gone.- sold it to a traveling Swiss couple....

Yeah, I bought the Vanagain Hall Sender unit for one of my spare 1.9 distributors. I did have to dress the body of it to fit the OG distributor. I let Ken know that might throw a few people a curve who don't own a Dremel like I do. _________________ '68 Westy- my first VW and vehicle/Bus- long gone.- sold it to a traveling Swiss couple....

I honestly haven't tried the 3D connectors or receptacles myself, I just go ahead and replace the whole Hall sender with a new chinese part, chinese connector. Never had a problem so far.
Been using them too for the 2.1, the model with no wire BS, just need to tap a hole at M4 like the late model distributors, but they're all cast and drilled already for it, so it's easy: run the tap, add a screw, done. _________________ Silicone Steering Boots and 930 Cv boots for sale in the classifieds.

The square connectors are definitely more common. There's even more OEM Bosch parts out there for those.
I try to help keep everything as original as possible for as long as possible.
You have to be careful of some of the connectors like with everything else aftermarket I guess. The connector I plugged into it was so tight I thought I would never get the plug out.
Oval connectors are easy for me to find. You just have to be careful with them. Hold the connector to the side of the distributor while you are unplugging it. That keeps it from moving up and down and breaking so easily. _________________ www.vwnos.com [email protected]
