|
|
I have a later engine in my '69 Bus, with the doghouse shroud/fan and a working thermostat.
The shroud it came with lacked the little lever on the right side to link to the stock air cleaner. I bought a new flap box with the external lever and installed it. The little lever is pretty well hidden behind the dual port intake manifold. It's plain strip of metal.
I am also not 100% sure my air cleaner is a perfect match. It has a little dogleg operating rod on a warm air flap.
I'll get photos to help y'all help me; but I'm not sure just what cable style and routing are called for with this stock (but unknown year) setup.
Anyone got photos of the proper cable & linkage? (Assuming my hardware is "proper") _________________ Current Fleet:

when it comes to an actual actuator cable I just throw a Shimano bicycle cable, the kind used on index-shifting mountain/road bikes on there.
It's been a decade + since my last 'life/bus hack' on my '76. The air shutters can't tell the difference apparently. So far, so good. It's a multi-strand steel cable. What could possibly go wrong . ? You might need a cable retainer barrel similar to what VW used on the heater boxes, but one that features an E-clip end to lock on to the lever/arm you mentioned. Specialized hardware. Someone must make it. |

I have an original VW bowden cable that hooks to the arm on the flap then routes to the arm on the oil bath. I'd be willing to sell it if you're in need.
Also, some folks replace that oil bath with a 71 bus oil bath with the thermostat in it. No linkage needed. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

That place is great! They have the cables, the thermostats, the coupling nuts, the brackets, the clips for the cooling flaps, the whole smash. _________________ 1977 VW Type 2 Bay Window Westy FI |

I think that's where I got the correct flap box. Great quality part! _________________ Current Fleet:
