I've got the engine out of my bus for some clean up and maintenance. I am ready to starting putting things back tougher and am seeking help per which of the two clutch discs I should use. This is the one that I have been using for the past six years and it has been working well.
But there seems to be some separation in the material as seen here:
This one has some rust on the springs but otherwise appears to be in good health:
The thickness is the same for both.
OR are these two discs no good and is it time for a new one?
Thanks,

I'd stay away from the one with the check marks in the lining, you say the thickness' are the same, just what is that number? _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

A new disc costs less than $60. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

I'm not trying to be a cheapskate - just seeking to learn. Thanks for the comments and advice. Am looking to source a new 210 mm clutch plate but so far have not found one for under $60. But that's not necessarily my goal. _________________ Late 1973 Bay w/a transplanted 914 Engine |

Unfortunately the 210mm disc is the most expensive one out of all the Bus discs. Probably close to 3x that. _________________ SL |

Ok, so you have the most expensive version of the available options…. Even at $185, that’s less than the tow truck is gonna cost. How much is your time worth to do it again?
And just know that a worn out clutch will inevitably fail at the worst time possible. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

I can get you a Sachs for $125 + shipping.
Or, here’s a seller that has them for $95 shipped…
