Just bought a 80s sandrail and has a aftermarket type 1 swing axle case and says 4.37 SS 88 stamped on. I'm assuming the 88 is the year but any thoughts on the "SS"?

"SS" Sand Special / Sport ?? That is just a guess, could be the builders initials too. By the stamping, 1.48 3rd and 1.12 4th and 4.37 R&P. Looks like an old Rhino case. Actually nice that the builder stamped what's inside, (at the time of the build).
