I have my 91 westy propane tank out and took it apart to get it powder coated and replace the service valve as it was leaking through when shut off. Does anyone have experience with the later westy tanks with the float in the propane fill valve? I know there's been talk of the early auto stop fill valves being problematic but are the later one with the float better or should they be replaced as well? Used the search function but couldn't find anything specifically talking about this style.

i replaced my OPD (Overfill Prevention Device) ACME fill valve as i wasn't getting enough liquid propane in the tank to spew out the 80% valve... meaning i was getting short-filled as the shutoff would activate. like 2.0 gallons instead of 2.8-3.0
replaced it with a ACME double check fill valve without OPD. works perfect. this means you and the fill attendant ABSOLUTELY MUST use the 80% valve. the whole point of the OPD was to keep idiots safe that did not use the 80% valve. _________________ -dan
