So I've had my eye on this Thing that has been sitting at a local auto repair yard for years, in the same spot. Being a Type 1 guy myself, I decided to stop by and see if the owner was interested in selling it. To my surprise, he is! All I know is that it's been sitting in the same spot for 10 years or so. The pans look surprisingly dry and there isn't even much rust in the battery area. It "ran when parked", and even had brake work done when it was parked. It has a clear title, but as you can see, it's been sitting for years without any cover from rain/the elements. I did notice about 1/8" Bondo on part of the nose, and small dents throughout, but nothing major. Not sure if it's numbers matching, nor if it has the original motor. Anyway, I might be able to snag this for a bargain. Just wondering what ball park do you guys think I should be willing to pay as-is? And if you see anything of concern from the only 3 pics I snapped of it?
Thanks in advance.

Anything is fixable with enough time money and resources... in this case, I hope you can realy start with a bargain as you said... cause that is going to need one of everything...
You'll find plenty of help and advise here, and most every part is available through vendors or the community.... ebay etc...
Here you have the link to my youtube channel you may find the videos useful.

Thank you FJBLF. Any help & resources are appreciated. I have subscribed to your YouTube channel. I’m about 90% sure that I will be purchasing this car. My goal will be to get the interior & top replaced, make sure the electrical is in good working order, and I will be going over all hard & soft brake lines (and a check of brake components) so that I can get it running as-is. I don’t plan on concentrating too much on the cosmetic part of it just yet (although the paint on it is butt ugly!). Your videos will be very helpful. _________________ Dave

DON'T OVERPAY.
It's more fun to weld up a couple beaver bites on a $1500 "project" Thing than to do the same work in an $8000 "project" Thing.
Sellers: Greed is not a virtue. Pass your Mexican rot box on to someone who will fix it, drive it and love it.

That's not paint. That's patina. Patina costs extra.

Wow - you're right on the money there - There's some rust present, but nothing major. The floor pans have areas of rust, but hopefully to where I can just have them patched up with replacement metal. I'm still trying to learn what all should be present in order to make it usable. The cost of a replacement top is crazy! Almost $1000? Gonna have to think about options there. _________________ Dave

If all it had was patina, I'd be ok with that, but it clearly was sprayed with a green paint job. Original color appears to have been white. I might try getting the green paint off and see what it looks like after that, although the driver's side rear door is going to be a challenge. Maybe leave it orange??
I'll post more pictures of it soon. Hoping I can have others chime in on what it's missing. _________________ Dave

Here she is. Towed it home (about 1/4mi) with 3 flat tires (only 1 would hold air).
