IRS Trailing Arms

Does anyone know if someone makes a set of trailing arms that are wider but not longer? In other words, I cannot change the wheelbase of my project. I need to lessen the angle of the axles CVs because right now it is too extreme. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Pretty sure a wider, but not longer, IRS trailing arm is not available. You could certainly modify an existing trailing arm to make it wider. Narrowing a stock trailing arm is pretty common if you google that so you can get an idea what would be involved in that fabrication. You could also get creative and cut the stock trailing arm pivots off the torsion bar housing and weld on new ones a few inches outboard. And you could use spring plates from a Thing to attach to the stock trailing arm further outboard. That would give you around 2.5" wider per side. You can make custom spring plates if you need more width. You will need to cut and extend the end of the torsion bar housing too to fit up the bushing and spring plate cover properly. Seems like a lot of work either way. How big are your angles? Maybe there is another solution.

The off road guys have custom/modified cv joints that allow extreme angles

The other option you have it switching to a larger cv joint. I converted to 100mm Bus joints on my Baja bug because they have more travel before they start binding.
This requires different axles, flanges and stubs axles though.

The conversion I did:
100mm cv joints (Bus)
Type 181 "Thing" axle shafts.
Type 181 aka conversion stub axles.
Type 181 aka conversion transaxle output flanges

No custom parts. Stock trailing arms. Stock Beetle bearings and drums.

Aren't some 944 arms wider? Plus the CVs are wider. I think, not an expert.
