I asked the supplier if I could get a few cans loaded for some touch up, but was informed that it is lacquer based, not urethane or acrylic, so not possible to do. Specifically it's TPCGlobal hot rod flats in sand tan. Is is not possible to aerosolize lacquer paints? Suggestions anyone?

Not sure of the issues with VOC in the US or in your particular state but there is no technical reason that any paint cannot be put into a can.

I worked in an aerosol filling plant filling many millions of cans a year, but our laboratory had manual single paint can filling machines to do one offs. You only need a filling head that can inject the gas back through the spray nozzle stem.

Most paint supply places can do it so i'd search out one of these even if you have to supply them with the paint sourced yourself.

In saying that if there are any specific issues with requiring catalysts then you need double chamber cans, or if there is any interaction between the propellant and the paint then the propellant has to be carefully chosen, which most retail places would not have. Most standard paint propellants are propane, butane or isobutane. For specialist mixtures you may need other propellants such as dimethyl ether or pentane.

The last issue is whether your paint is lacquer in the old solvent manner as in the original German "Lack" or if it is an acrylic lacquer which is a different animal.

Since I likely have to supply the paint, and unsure of any catalysts,it sounds like it's easier to get a pint etc.,and just use a mini gun to shoot it..only about 5 sf. Thanks.
